North Carolina:
New Mandatory Update topics are now in effect

The 2026–2027 GENUP and BICUP courses became available on July 1.

The GENUP curriculum covers:

  • Appraisals

  • Fake sellers

  • Fair housing

  • NCREC frequently asked questions

  • Law and rules updates

  • Licensing and education updates

BICUP includes those subjects plus BIC responsibilities. Brokers may complete the course between July 1, 2026, and June 10, 2027. NCREC also confirmed that BIC-eligible brokers who take GENUP instead of BICUP will remain active but lose their BIC or BIC-eligible status.

Why it matters

These topics are an early indicator of where NCREC expects compliance problems and consumer harm during the coming license year. Fake-seller fraud, appraisal communications, supervision, advertising accuracy, and disclosure practices should therefore appear prominently in elective-course examples and case studies.
