Commercial Core Course Under Review

The South Carolina Real Estate Commission reviewed the developing 2026–2028 Commercial Core Course during its July 29 meeting.

The published agenda confirms that course development is underway, but it does not provide final objectives, implementation instructions, or an effective date. Providers should therefore monitor Commission publications rather than altering approved course materials prematurely.

South Carolina’s general CE framework remains 10 hours per renewal cycle for active brokers and associates: four mandatory/core hours and six elective hours. Active brokers-in-charge generally need the BIC course, core course, and two elective hours.

Status: Course development and monitoring item—not a final regulatory change

Georgia:

Broker CE Must Be Identified Correctly

Georgia brokers subject to the rule must complete at least 18 hours of broker-specific education as part of their existing 36-hour CE requirement.

Broker CE courses must address training licensees, supervising licensees, reviewing brokerage agreements, or managing a firm. A general CE course does not satisfy this component unless GREC has approved it specifically for Broker CE.

The rule has applied to qualifying renewals since July 1, 2025, but course classification and advertising remain important compliance concerns for schools and licensees.

Status: Confirmed rule already in effect

North Carolina:

Update curriculum points to emerging risks

The 2026–2027 GENUP and BICUP curricula emphasize appraisals, fake sellers, fair housing, licensing and education updates, and BIC responsibility. These topics provide a practical roadmap for elective-course updates.

Appraisal transition ahead

Appraisers face a November 2, 2026 deadline to adopt UAD 3.6. Brokers should prepare to provide better property documentation without crossing the line into improper value influence.

License-status warning

Brokers who became inactive because of CE deficiencies must stop client communications, advertising, negotiation, and other brokerage activities until properly reactivated.
